Concrete Infrastructure Research Group (CIRG)

Applications have recently opened for the EPSRC FIBE2 CDT PhD studentship with Costain: Performance-Based Concrete as a Route for CO2 reduction.

A robust digital evidence base for accurate prediction and measurement of concrete performance coupled with strategies to incentivise performance-based design are fundamental strands to overcome the challenges of lower carbon concretes which will be investigated throughout the PhD. The successful applicant will use the Cambridge Civil Engineering laboratories in tandem with practical site trials/demonstrators e.g. on-site batching and material laboratories for experimental and practical validation of proposed solutions.

The FIBE2 Centre for Doctoral training offers a cohort-based training experience and the FIBE2 CDT studentships are fully funded (fees and maintenance) for UK students and a small number of funded places may be available for excellent EU/international students. The CIRG and Costain have developed a strong relationship over recent years which looks to implement research into practical application.
