Michele W T Mak DRA

Michele’s PhD thesis received a Recognition Award in the Engineering Sciences category at the 10th edition of the Doctoral Researcher Awards (DRA). The award ceremony was held remotely on 11 September 2021.

The thesis titled ‘Deterioration and Cracking in Reinforced Concrete Bridges’ focussed on the strength assessment of deteriorated bridges. The ultimate objective of the research project is the reduction of the safety risks, economic costs and environmental impact of our infrastructure network.

The DRA is an academic competition for junior researchers who are pursuing (or have recently completed) doctoral degrees in the United Kingdom. It has been organised annually since 2012. DRA's purpose is to promote and reward academic and scientific excellence among young researchers who will be the world class academics of the future.

The Concrete Infrastructure Research Group develops sustainable infrastructure, through an improved understanding of existing infrastructure assets, the use of new materials, and the creation of innovative structural solutions.
